Students participate in aquaponic tours

MONTELLO, Wis. — Fifth-grade students from Westfield and Forest Lane elementary schools attended May 17 a day of hands-on learning that involved activities in the Dream Flight USA STEM Shuttle and tours of Nelson and Pade Inc.’s aquaponic greenhouse in Montello.

When the group arrived, Rebecca Nelson, co-founder of Nelson and Pade Inc., explained what aquaponics is. The Westfield students were then split into two groups, with one entering the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, also known as STEM, shuttle; the other ventured into the greenhouse to learn about aquaponic food production.
