Aquaponic Greenhouse Utilizes Biogas for Heat,
Baldwin, Wi
Nelson and Pade, Inc is consulting on a 1/2 acre aquaponic
greenhouse project for Future Farm, LLC in Baldwin,
Wisconsin.
This facility is
currently under construction in Baldwin, Wisconsin. The
greenhouse will utilize bio-gas from the Baldwin Dairy
to provide heat and energy to the greenhouse. Raft
aquaponic systems will utilize fish waste for growing
plants, in recirculating systems. The result will be
daily harvests of fancy lettuce and herbs and weekly
harvests of fish.
This greenhouse is now
under construction and is scheduled for completion by
the end of 2008.

Aquaponic System Development
Nelson and Pade have spent several years developing a complete
line of aquaponic systems that are available for sale. The
new systems catalog is now online.
Aquaponics in Ohio
Nelson and Pade, Inc. is working with Dr. Sue Raftery on the
development of a large scale aquaponic venture that will supply
fresh, locally grown fish and vegetables to Northern Ohio
communities.
Two New
School Projects
Nelson and Pade, Inc. currently has two school projects in
development. In September, Nelson and Pade will install an
aquaponic system in the new wet lab at Red Lake High School in
Red Lake, Minnesota. Nelson and Pade, Inc. is also
consulting for Herring Gut Learning Center, Port Clyde, Maine,
on the expansion of the existing aquaponics greenhouse and
program. A trip to Port Clyde in September will be the
start of this coloboration.
Summer Camp
Adds Aquaponics, Hydroponics
Camp
Stone, an Orthodox Jewish summer camp in western Pennsylvania,
is using aquaponics and hydroponics to demonstrate sustainable,
soilless farming techniques. In May, Nelson and Pade set up
an aquaponic growing system in the camp's 30' x 60' greenhouse.
Recent
Projects Aquaponic,
Hydroponic Agri-tourism Greenhouse Project,
in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Nelson
and Pade are currently designing an agri-tourism greenhouse for
Sid's Ponds and Gardenscapes in Hornby, Ontario, Canada (just
outside of Toronto). The project, which is planned to be
completed and open for visitors this fall, will contain a unique
display of aquaponic and hydroponic displays. The facility
will be open for tours, and school groups, students and the
general public will be encouraged to visit.

on the development and implementation of an
aquaponics program at Honokaa'
High School on the Big Island of Hawaii
Aurea, Inc.
Aquaponic Technology Center, Puanluu', Hawaii
Nelson/Pade
is assisting Terry Astro, Aurea, Inc., in planning a
high-tech, innovative aquaponic
farm project on their 40 acre-farm in the Hamakua District.
This farm will incorporate aquaculture, aquaponics, hydroponics
and greenhouse growing for the purpose of commercial food
production as well as agri-tourism, education and technology
transfer.
International Hydroponics Congress,
Costa Rica
Rebecca Nelson
and John Pade were featured speakers at the
International Congress on
Hydroponics in Costa Rica. Presentations included two comprehensive
talks on
aquaponics. The presentations were spoken in English and translated into
Spanish. Nelson and Pade also had an aquaponics display at
the conference tradeshow. There was a lot of interest in
aquaponics shown by conference attendees.
The
House of Greens, Hydroponic Lettuce and Herbs, Merced, California
Nelson/Pade recently oversaw the construction of a 30' x 124'
greenhouse for The House of Greens
in Merced, CA. They are now up and running using an NFT growing system
to grow fancy lettuce and a variety of herbs.
Organic/Hydroponic Lettuce and Herbs, Hamden,
Connecticut
Nelson/Pade completed a project report for this
hydroponic lettuce and herb
greenhouse and was
onsite to oversee the construction and ensure the project was off
to a good start. The owner, who will be
starting out with a 2-bay, 44’ x 156’ greenhouse with plans to
expand to 6 bays on the existing site.
Aquaponics
at Winsted, CT High School
Five aquaponic
systems were installed by Nelson/Pade at the Winsted High School
Agriculture Department. This innovative project will enable high
school students the opportunity for hands-on learning in
aquaponic food production.

Large
Commercial Aquaponic Greenhouse
Nelson/Pade
assisted with the planning, design, development and
construction of this 18,000 sq. ft. greenhouse in Illinois.
The plants are grown in the float system and the fish are raised
in round tanks. The water constantly recirculates through
the float beds and back to the fish tanks.
Hydroponic Lettuce and Herbs, plus Agri-Tourism,
Claremont, Jamaica
Nelson/Pade prepared a feasibility study for this exciting project in
Jamaica, which will incorporate NFT hydroponics for growing fancy
lettuce and herbs in a 10,000+ square foot greenhouse on a 330
acre farm, overlooking Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

Nelson/Pade
assisted a South African businessman in planning
and designing a community-wide aquaponic project in which a
central farm will supply seedlings and fingerlings to satellite
production farms.
Hydroponic Tomatoes in Jamaica
See the construction of a
specialized greenhouse used to grow tomatoes in Jamaica
Nelson/Pade assisted a group establishing a hydroponic tomato
operation in Middlesex, Jamaica. In mid August, 2004 we spent a week
there guiding the construction, commissioning the equipment and training.
