1-40 1-2.5x2.5RAFT
Aquaponic System
Description
The
1-40 1-2.5x2.5RAFT
is a great mini-system to demonstrate the concepts of
aquaponics while producing some fish and plants. This
system is a replica of the UVI (University of the Virgin
Islands) commercial scale system, but on a much smaller
scale. The plants are grown in the connected raft
tank, a popular method of soilless plant production.
The raft system is a proven method of aquaponic growing
with a good output of fish and plants.
Configuration:
The main culture components include 1 - 40 gallon fish
tank, 1- 2.5' x 2.5' raft tank for growing plants and a
carefully designed filtration system that creates a healthy
environment for the plants, fish and beneficial bacteria.
Approximate
footprint: 8' x 10'
Production:
Estimated fish production per year: 34 lbs.
Estimated lettuce production per year: 170 without
lights / 283 with lights
